Target Audience Research: Kidnap

Our target audience for The Neighbor is advertised to people within the age range of 14-23 that live in the United States as they can relate to the high schoolers in our film since they currently go to high school or went a few years ago. The gender of our target audience is primarily young women since the main characters in The Neighbor are women as well. The income level of our target audience is middle to upper class as these people can associate with Ally, Ashley, and Sarah since they are in the same financial range. Because our target audience are primarily in high school and college, they are (usually) still being supported by their parents, like Ally, Sarah, Ally, and Patty, making it reasonable to market to the middle to upper class.

-Social Media Pages: By making social media pages for Kidnap, they are marketing to a younger audience since in 2017, 2.46 billion people in the world used social media (Statista 2019) and 86% of these users are 18 to 29 years old (Cohen 2017). By making their mark on the younger generation, the younger people will follow the movie's page to get more details on it, send it to their friends via direct message, or retweet/post the movie's pictures or tweets on their feed.
-Billboard: By using billboards, Kidnap is advertising to everyone since most people drive and the ones who can't usually ride in cars and they will pass this advertisement. Also, by placing the famous and beautiful Halle Berry on the side of the billboard, her fans and people who think she is attractive are more likely to watch this movie. The large KIDNAP on the billboard can interest people and make them want to watch it as abductions are a big problem in the United States since, on average, 90,000 people are missing at any time (Kepple, Epstein, Grisham 2014).

-Interview: At the premiere of Kidnap in South Florida, Halle Berry promotes the movie by telling the people watching why kidnapping is a major problem and how this movie shows how there are sick people who will abduct your kid for no reason. After watching this snippet of Berry, one may be intrigued by this and want to watch the movie to see why kidnapping is a major problem in the United States.

-Halle Berry Shouts out movie: Halle Berry is shouting out the movie Kidnap, but also women. By calling mothers "protectors and fighters" she is breaking down gender roles of the usual man saves the day. Usually men are known for protecting people, especially their family, but in this scenario, a woman is protecting her son, even if it means death. Because of this caption, more women will want to watch kidnap and see a scenario, for once, that a woman saves the day.

The Neighbor and Kidnap are similar since we both have the same target audience as we both are advertising to younger people (Kidnap does this by using social media), we have the same genre, thriller, and both movies main roles are given to women. Also, in our film, Sarah gets kidnapped just like Karla Dyson's (Halle Berry) son in Kidnap. To improve the marketing of The Neighbor, we will use the social media tactics and, just like Halle Berry's post, we will do something similar and promote the film through our main character's Instagram. By using social media tactics, we will attract a younger crowd as 86% of the people on social media are 18-29 (Cohen 2017). Also, by shouting out our film on Instagram through our main character, many of her girl fans and followers will want to see The Neighbor as in her caption we will talk about how women can do anything, even track down a crazy kidnapper (Patty).
