Film Project Genre Research The Ritual

The Netflix Film, The Ritual, is a horror movie. The first two minutes of the film shows a group of college friends reuniting at a bar talking about where they will travel to next. They end up choosing Sweden and hope that it will be as much fun as when they hiked the Appalachian Trail. The shots used in the beginning of the movie include a master shot showing all the men in the bar, a close up of the characters having a conversation, and an over the shoulder shot displaying one of the men. There is a sound bridge in the start of the movie of the reunited men's conversation and there is also background noises of the television. The first thirty-five seconds of The Ritual presents the opening credits, including Entertainment One and The Imaginarium who all contribute to the making of the film. The Ritual's budget was $75,000 Australian Dollars and ended up making $4.75 million when it was sold to Netflix. The film won the British Independent Film Award for Best Effects and Best Actor Award for Rafe Spall.
